Dozens of floral tributes have been placed outside Leicestershire Police’s headquarters, in memory of Simon Cole, the former Chief Constable, who passed away suddenly earlier this week.
The touching tributes have been placed at the force’s Enderby headquarters, in memory of the former Chief, who had served in the role for 12 years, before being found dead at his home on Wednesday morning – just 12 days after his retirement.
In the days since Simon’s body was found, there has been an outpouring of shock and grief from all corners of the community, with people mourning the loss of the popular and well respected figurehead.
Among the poignant tributes placed by members of the community was, one from Katie and Leigh Spencer.
“Sir, we want to thank you for being an inspiration to us both. You were always so lovely when we saw you and we enjoyed talking to you,” they wrote.
“You will always be remembered and we are so thankful for all you did in your Police service. May you rest in peace now.”
“A man who inspired everyone, and helped the Leicester community, who will be deeply missed,” reads another.
“You were amazing in helping the community and was very positive, and gave positive outlook on the Leicestershire community. May you rest in peace.”
With tributes and messages of support flooding in from across the country, the force has now opened a book of condolence for the former Chief.
Temporary Chief Constable Rob Nixon said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has contacted the force in different ways since finding out about Simon’s death. Your kind words are appreciated at this most challenging time. I know his family are grateful for the messages of support and condolence. I ask all, please, to continue to respect their privacy.”
