Fun Event to Celebrate 125 Years of Leicester Children’s Charity

A Leicester-based charity held its first ever family festival last weekend, to celebrate its 125th birthday.

Leicester Children’s Holidays held their ‘Flourish’ event last Saturday 26th August in Syston’s Central Park.

With over 400 tickets sold, the event saw friends and families across Leicestershire come together to experience a day of joy and excitement, with live music acts including a George Ezra tribute, taking centre stage. Other attractions included bouncy castles, a giant inflatable obstacle course, animal petting, circus workshops, bubbles and stilts, mini golf, trampolines, beat the goalie and glitter tattoos all included in the ticket price. The crowd was also treated to bagpipe playing from the RATAE Pipe Band.

The charity also invited 200 LCH families who they have supported over the past couple of years, children who would usually miss out on an experience such as this due to living in disadvantaged circumstances.

All the children at the festival were able to have unlimited fun on all the activities, saving parents the cost of forever having to dip hands in pockets.

Despite downpours of rain nothing could dampen the joyous mood, with lots of smiling, happy faces running around. The sun did arrive in the afternoon much to everyone’s relief.

One Festival Guest, Kate said: “Just wanted to say thanks for putting on such a brilliant festival. Excellent range of stalls and entertainment, and lovely friendly staff. You did a fantastic job despite the weather.”

The charity is marking its 125th anniversary this year and has provided tens of thousands of children across Leicestershire and Rutland with holidays, experiences, and enriching activities.

Nichola Moore, LCH CEO, said: “To celebrate this milestone of 125 years, we wanted to provide a memorable, affordable, and fun day out for families, it was also a great chance to offer some of our LCH families the chance to come along for free and enjoy a day they otherwise would not get the chance to. I am so thankful to our small team of 4 staff and 15 fabulous volunteers who made the day possible”.
