The millions of people who lost their lives during the Holocaust and other genocides will be remembered at an event in Leicester on Saturday.
Holocaust Memorial Day will be marked at an event in Leicester this Saturday (January 28), that includes a cello recital of the Jewish prayer Kol Nidrei and an address by Professor Aubrey Newman, former director of the Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Leicester.
As part of the event, prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Paul Winstone Memorial Competition – a writing competition for young people at local schools that’s part of the annual Holocaust Memorial Day event.
Holocaust Memorial Day 2023 aims to highlight the impact of war on the lives of ordinary people, whether they are victims, refugees, bystanders, perpetrators or witnesses of genocide.
This year’s event will take place in the Victorian Gallery at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery at 7pm on Saturday. All are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge.
Leicester’s Holocaust Memorial Day event is a collaboration between the Leicester Council of Faiths, Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and the University of Leicester’s Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust & Genocide Studies.
