A talented 14-year-old from Ibstock is fundraising after being selected to tap dance for team GB at the World Championships.
Mackenzie Dandy is set to travel to Germany in November to take part in the IDO World Tap Dance Championships, a competition organised by the International Dance Organisation.
“I’m so very proud to be representing Team GB at the World Tap Championships in Germany. I’ve worked very hard to get this far, and can’t wait to travel later in the year and compete,” she told the Leicester Times.
“However, part of my initiative is to fundraise to help me get there, for help covering costs for travel, accommodation, kit, entry fees amongst other things.
“I’ll be working really hard from now until November when the World Championships start, and I’m hoping with your help it will get a local girl to the big stage, and I’ll be able to keep you all updated and take you on the journey with me,” she added.
The IDO World Tap Championships are set to take place between November 22 and 26, in Riesa, Germany.
They are a competitive tap dance event presented by the International Dance Organisation (IDO), an organisation established in 1981 to organise competitions for dance forms not covered by other international dancing federations and governing bodies.
So far Mackenzie, who has been dancing for the past ten years, has raised £795 of her £1,000 fundraising target.
Her Dad, Rhys said that he was so proud of his daughter, who has always given “110 per cent” to dance.
“She does her training and competing at the highest possible standard she can, and she deserves this chance so much, it makes the many, many miles driven and the hours and hours spent waiting in the car all worth while!” he added.
“I would also like to say a massive thank you to her principal at Storm, Miss Suzie Adams, who without her dedication and training, non of this would be possible, along with other notable teachers including Mr Dan Szilak.
“Also a massive thank you to the people who have sponsored Mackenzie and donated, businesses such as Steve Boam Builders and Joiners from Coalville, Gracie Jaynes in Ibstock and Beaut Transformations in Atherstone, plus the many other donations from the generous local people.”
