Since the latest series started on March 23, the 30-year-old marine pilot, has executed a series of dishes inspired by his family and his travels.

Last night’s episode (Tuesday, April 26), saw Eddie and the other semi finalists, create a three-course menu that they would be proud to serve in their own restaurant.

Tables were laid in the dining room and filled with 20 past MasterChef quarter-finalists, semi-finalists and finalists – all of whom have gone on to have full-time careers in the food industry since taking part in the competition.

Eddie had seven takers for his starter of south Indian mussels with brill, mango salad and deep fried vada dumplings.

On last night’s show, he explained how his job helps with his preparation, when it comes to cooking.

“At work we stick to very tight parameters bringing ships into port with high levels of precision so I am always strict with myself with very high standards when it comes to presentation and timings”, he said.

The judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace had nothing but praise for the competitor, who currently lives in Beverly, East Yorkshire.

“He has had a great competition and he does not seem to put a foot wrong. He’s fascinating”, said Mr Wallace.

“He’s a master of the French classic and loves Indian flavourings and they often overlap”.

According to his profile, Eddie is passionate about Mughlai food, which encompasses the historic royal cuisines of Old Delhi, Lucknow, and Hyderabad. In addition, he enjoys merging classical techniques with Indian components to create his own fusion foods, which he calls “fusion cuisines.”

His dish impressed everyone last night and he sailed through to the final eight of this years MasterChef -a competition he has watched for years.

The next episode of MasterChef will be shown tonight, BBC One at 8pm, where Eddie and the remaining semi-finalists, will cook a three-star lunch for a prestigious centenary event held by the Royal British Legion.
