One of the UK’s oldest and most cherished traditions is set to return bigger and better than ever, as Loughborough Fair prepares to take over the town centre next month.
Now in its 804th year, the historic fair will run from Wednesday, 12 November to Saturday, 15 November, and promises its largest event yet with an expanded footprint, more rides, and new attractions.

Organised by Charnwood Borough Council, the fair will cover its usual central areas—Market Place, Granby Street car park, Cattle Market, Ward’s End, and Bedford Square—while also extending into Derby Square and further along Swan Street for the first time.
Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, the council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, expressed her excitement about the fair’s return.
“We are excited to welcome Loughborough Fair back once again—from the showmen to residents and visitors to the town,” she said. “The fair is always an event that puts a smile on people’s faces while bringing back memories of fairs gone by. I’m sure 2025 will be another memorable year.
“It proves to be more popular each year, and we are delighted to have expanded the fair this time so thousands of visitors can enjoy even more attractions.”
The fair will be officially opened at 5pm on Wednesday, 12 November by the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor David Northage, who will read the traditional fair proclamation.
To accommodate the fair, several car parks will be closed in the lead-up to the event. Granby Street car park will shut from the afternoon of Monday, 10 November, while Ward’s End and Bedford Square car parks will close from the afternoon of Tuesday, 11 November. Visitors are encouraged to use Beehive Lane multi-storey, Southfield Road, and Southfield offices car park (outside council hours).
Charnwood Borough Council will work closely with local police and provide stewards throughout the event to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

The fair dates back to 1221, when King Henry III granted the first official charter to Hugh le Despenser, then Lord of the Manor. Since then, the Loughborough Fair has become a celebrated local tradition and a highlight of the town’s calendar.
