Loughborough University has been named as top of the East Midlands university rankings this year, according to The Times Good University Guide.

The Leicestershire-based university sits at 11th place in the publication’s official list, which was released earlier today (Friday, September 16), narrowly missing out on a top ten spot.

However, it still outperforms 16 of 24 Russell Group institutions.

Loughborough has previously won University of the Year twice, and has been shortlisted more times than any other in Good University Guide history.

Meanwhile, the University of Leicester is listed at number 35 on this year’s list, up two places from last year, with De Montfort University coming in at 122, jumping four places.

Professor Elizabeth Jones, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Education at the University of Leicester, said: “Rising two places to 35th in the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 is a great result for the University of Leicester and welcome recognition of our student-centred education strategy. Our commitment to providing the very best experience for our students has allowed us to make strong headway in a competitive sector. What’s more, it follows Leicester’s jump in both the Complete University Guide earlier this year, and in the latest Guardian University Guide rankings.

“These accolades are the culmination of the efforts of colleagues working in every aspect of university life, and I would like to congratulate them all for helping us to accomplish this.”

The new edition of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023, a free 96-page supplement, will be published this weekend in The Sunday Times (September 18).

It is said to provide the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain.

It includes profiles on 135 universities and the definitive UK university rankings, making use of the latest data published in the past two months. A fully searchable website with university profiles and 70 subject tables will be published at
